African Drumming - Workshop/Courses

Duration: 60 min session OR a 5-8 week course
Group size: Up to 20
Suit: Community and youth groups, youth at risk, refugee integration, performing arts centres, school holiday programs, youth camps, community festivals, cultural events and more!    

Description: Our African Drumming Workshops are fun, entertaining, and cultural. Participants learn the art of working together without words, building dynamic sounds and polyrhythmic compositions traditional to West African Music. Participants learn Djembe, and Doundoun drumming technique, the cultural significance and context behind traditional rhythms, and the relationship between drummer and dancer. Workshops can be designed around particular themes and culminate into a community performance.   

Benefits: Learn about a different culture, learn a new skill, develop a sense of community, improve communication and listening skills, work through differences and conflict, enhance self-esteem and personal expression, develop relationships based on trust, respect and understanding, promote cultural diversity, and have FUN!

African Dance – Workshop/Courses

Duration: 60 min session OR 5-8 week course
Group size: Unlimited
Suit: Community and youth groups, youth at risk, dance schools, school holiday programs, community festivals and cultural events. 

Description: Learn traditional West African movements and dance sequences. West African Dance combines elements of culture, music, rhythm, song and fitness that engage mind, body and spirit. Workshops can be designed around particular themes, where the cultural and social significance of each rhythm and dance is explained. Our African Dance workshops can be accompanied by live drumming, giving participants an opportunity to discover the unique dialogue and relationship between drummer and dancer!   

Benefits: Fun learning, develop new skill, cultural, social, musical, build coordination, confidence, communication, listening, self esteem, creativity, encourage participation and self expression.

DRUMS TALK! Interactive drumming show

Duration: Up to 45 min
Group size: Any size!
Suit: Team building, youth forums, ice breaker, health and wellbeing, community bonding, vacation care, school holiday programs, community festivals and cultural events, personal development, anti-bullying, youth leadership training, youth at risk, interactive entertainment, and special events!

Description: An interactive drumming show where every participant is given an African drum and percussion instrument and is invited to join in! Before they know it, the unsuspecting audience have become performers rather than spectators and the group dynamic and team spirit begin to emerge. 

Benefits: Drumming together builds strong relationships and improves teamwork! Fun learning, develop new skill, cultural, social, musical, build coordination, confidence, communication, listening, self esteem, creativity, encourage participation and self expression, promote cultural diversity.

Cultural Performance – African Drum & Dance

Suit: Community Festivals and cultural events

Description: Welcome your guests to the rhythms of Africa! Capture their attention and imagination or compliment the theme of your event. Fresh, vibrant, engaging and fun, our high-energy drumming and dance ensembles bring together the powerful rhythms, sweet melodies and dynamic dance movements representative of the colourful and vibrant culture of West Africa. In bright costumes, their infectious rhythms and dances deliver a highly captivating and unforgettable performance!

Leadership Training – Drum Circle Facilitation

Duration: 2 days - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Plus an evening Community Drum Circle!
Group Size: Limited to 25 participants
Suit: Youth leaders, music therapists, community leaders, music teachers, childcare and youth workers, community groups and organisations, and youth at risk professionals.

Description: Gain the tools, skills, experience, knowledge, confidence, and personal qualities required to conduct a successful and rewarding drum circle in your community! Learn how to facilitate rhythm games and activities for multiple group applications, using drums, percussion, voice, and movement. The course involves theory, discussion and lots of practical experience! No previous drumming or drum circle facilitation experience required.

Benefits: As a community drum circle facilitator you can help bring people together in a fun & positive way, promote self esteem & confidence in your community, break down barriers & build relationships quickly, promote a sense of belonging & wellbeing, and develop leadership & communication skills.
